Studio 89 is pleased to present Spiral, a solo exhibition featuring a selection of ceramics and large-scale paintings by Chloe Mosbacher. Spiral takes place from 7 August through 31 August 2021. Studio 89 Gallery is located at 89 Vineyard Avenue in Highland, New York, just off of exit 18 on I-87 and very close to the Walkway over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie. 

In Spiral, Mosbacher builds worlds in paint that animate and dramatize the intensity of feelings as well as narrativizing distinct points of development in the journey of life.

Mosbacher presents a series of complex figurative paintings that are deeply personal, as she depicts herself and her loved ones in surreal settings shaped and distorted by different mental and emotional states. The paintings function as a set of collages and transparent images overlaid on top of one-another, evoking a sense of multiplicity - which to her, portrays the idea that several events - or realities are unfolding at once. With this technique, Mosbacher blurs the lines between figure and ground within the picture plane to express how our internal and external landscapes are wholly interconnected. The figures within each painting are used as guises representing various emotional states felt in moments of privacy or alternatively representing different stages within one’s life, such as states of existential questioning or searching for meaning.
