Corissa Appler, a life-long resident of Milton, New York, is an artist and art teacher in the Hudson Valley. She resides with her husband, son, and daughter in a Victorian style home, which they have renovated.
Corissa has earned a BS in Art Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany with a Concentration in painting and a minor in Graphic Design, and a MS in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz.
Since 2000, Corissa has been teaching art at Arlington High School, in LaGrangeville, New York. She has inspired students in her various classes including, Studio Art, Drawing and Painting, Advanced Painting, Advanced Drawing, AP Art and Design, and Computer Graphics to become lifelong learners. Her teaching philosophy is to have art brighten and enrich the lives of her students.
Cori’s artworks focus on the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley including its views, animals, and inhabitants. “Whether I am painting a delicate flower growing in my neighbor’s garden or a majestic view of the Hudson River, I am able to appreciate the elegance of the world around me.” Corissa's process involves taking photos of nearby animals, views from hiking, and family members, which she then interprets as paintings with either acrylic paint or water-based oil paint. Layers of brushstrokes are built upon one another to create rich textures and depth in each artwork.
